Updated Junior Viking Webpages!
A big thanks to Julie Strickland’s photo shooting skills! We have 5 webpages of some great pictures! The statistical summary of the East Mills game is limited pretty much to total yardage by offense and defense. I have posted a summary of yardage and scoring on the stats page. To go directly to the junior high football homepage type in the following address: http://stantonschools.com/sports/Football/jhfootball/jrhighfootball.htm. Once there, you can select to view the schedule and results, picture pages, awards, game program, coach’s comments and prior seasons. Our school’s website is best viewed using Internet Explorer.
Attendance is a MUST to be prepared!!
Just missing one practice and returning the next day does not leave you where you left off; it puts you behind the rest of the team. Not only is the absent athlete behind, but the team is also less than what it could have been had the absent player been in practice to give his teammates what he has to offer. With 100% attendance in practice, we would have 13 athletes (enough to scrimmage).
BIG Schstick! Award
This coveted award was initiated 4 years ago and has really brought another dimension to our game. We are hoping this will continue to be a FUN, exciting and competitive award this season. Definition: The BIG Schstick! Award is proudly presented after each game to the athlete(s) that makes the biggest, hardest, loudest, bone-rattling, pad-popping, body-jarring HIT!
On Monday, September 8, Jeff Marshall earned the award with several hard hits. The best one decleated the interceptor of a pass and caused his glasses to pop out of his helmet. Several other players made some good hits in this first game, so it should be interesting to see who wins this award in Farragut on Monday.
Game Video/DVD
If anyone has copy of the East Mills game and/or is interested in volunteering to use the school’s video camera to record our upcoming games, please let me know. In the meantime, I will be trying to find a student willing to do it. Occasionally, I use the tape as a team teaching tool. The athletes in past years have enjoyed watching the games to learn from their mistakes and successes. ALSO, if the school’s camera is used, I could supply a DVD of each game to those who would like one.
Eligibility
Please check on your son’s classroom status. Mid-term is in eleven days, Tuesday, September 23. Reports will come out shortly after. An athlete with a failing grade would be ineligible for the South Page game. In order to stay eligible and participate, an athlete must be passing ALL classes. We have been reminding them that academics come first AND if they need to miss practice (2:32-3:21) in order to get help from a teacher—that is fine! In addition, we strongly encourage them to be responsible enough to take care of their assignments on time and not get themselves into a position where they will need to miss practice.
IF YOU HAVE ANY RESERVATIONS ABOUT YOUR SON BEING PICTURED OR LISTED ON THE WEBSITE, PLEASE EMAIL ME AT jeff_grebin@hotmail.com
Information from our first game has been reported to both the Villisca Review and the Red Oak Express.
