FCCLA Thank You

  The FCCLA would like to give a big THANK YOU to Peggy Beem for the awesome pumpkins that she donated for the FCCLA pumpkin decorating contest. Also THANK YOU to Gen Houston for finding the pumpkins and making the contact!! 

Corner Conference Science Fair Judges Needed

  The Corner Conference Science Fair will be held Monday, November 19th, at Fremont-Mills. Each school district is asked to bring 5 judges to the science fair. The judges will meet at 9:30 AM for a brief orientation with judging to follow and end by 1:00 P.M. Previous judges have had positive experiences meeting students from Southwest Iowa and finding out what interests the students. If you are interested in judging, please contact Carla Erickson ([email protected]), Kevin Blunt ([email protected]) or call the high school at 712-829-2162. 

7th & 8th Grade Science Fair Projects

  Seventh and Eighth grade students are required to complete a Science Fair project for school. The top 20 projects will then be selected to attend the Corner Conference Science Fair on Monday, November 19th. Projects must be experimental in nature and will be due Monday, November 5th. Each student will need a tri-fold display board for their project. Scholastic Book Fair

  The Scholastic Book Fair will held in the elementary school concourse. Dates for the fair are Friday, October 26th through Thursday, November 1st.  Come and visit the fair during Parent/Teacher Conferences or during school hours the week of the fair.

Jeffrey S. Raikes School of Computer Science and Management (formerly the J.D. Edwards Honors Program in Computer Science and Management) -University of Nebraska at Lincoln - due November 2

-Regardless of major, the J.D. Edwards Honors Program will cover all the tuition for the required credit hours (total value estimated to be between $10,000 and $15,000)

-a composite ACT score of 30 or higher

-3.5 or better high school G.P.A.

The Hagan Scholarship

1. Application Deadline November 15, NO EXCEPTIONS.

2. Applications reviewed for completeness and eligibility.

3. Applications Evaluated.

4. Semi-Finalists provide supplemental information.

5. Finalists notified and interviewed in April, 2019 in Columbia, Missouri.

6. Scholarships awarded and notifications mailed “Return Service Requested.”

Must be a Citizen of the United States.

Must have attended as a junior and senior an eligible public high school.

Must be a student in the 2018 high school graduating class.

Must have achieved a high school CGPA of 3.50 or higher.

Must score 23 or higher on the ACT (Composite Score); or 1,200 on the New SAT (Reading & Math).

Must enroll in a four year college the first semester following high school graduation.

Must work 240 hours in the twelve months prior to the start of college.

Must complete the FAFSA in 2017 using 2016 tax return information.

FAFSA EFC must be less than $6,500.

     Must apply for eligible Federal and State grants.

Must not have been convicted of a felony.

Elks National Most Valuable Student Scholarship Contest   Online

-due November 15, must start on line

-High school senior and U. S. citizen

-based on scholarship, leadership and financial need

- 500 four-year awards ranging from $1,000 per year to $15,000 per year

ATHLETICS

State Football

  State Football will be at Exira tonight at 7:00 PM. Admission is $8.00 for both adults and students.

Regional Volleyball

  Regional Volleyball Finals will be at Riverside (Oakland) on Tuesday, October 30th, at 7:00 PM. Admission is $6.00 for adults and students.

Viqueen Volleyball

  The Viqueens continue down the regional trail as they hosted Bedford on Monday, October 22nd, for a quarter-final regional match.  The Viqueens came out ready to play and won the match in three sets 25-10, 25-20, and 25-17. The Viqueens traveled to Malvern last night for the regional semi-final match against East Mills. Please come out and support the Queens–we love to see so many supporters in the crowd! Be loud and proud!

Viking Football

  Congratulations to the Vikings for earning 1 of 16 spots in the 2018 State Football Playoffs! The Vikings are working hard and having fun as they prepare to travel to Exira to take on the 8-1 Spartans. The victor of tonight’s Vikings vs Spartans game will play the winner of the Fremont-Mills/Lenox game the following Friday for the opportunity to play at the UNI Dome for the semi-finals. Kickoff is at 7:00 PM. Game will be on KSOM and KJAN---both of Atlantic. Go Vikings!

 

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Trick or Treat on the Trail

  Stanton Betterment Association’s 12th Annual Trick or Treat on the Trail will be held on October 27th from 3:00-5:00 PM. They are in need of groups to pass out candy, hayrack ride helpers and approximately 400 little goblins. To sign up or for further information, call Jacque Bates at 829-2814 or email her at [email protected]. No dogs please. Trick or Treat at Accura Healthcare will be 3:00-4:00 PM.

Haunted House

  Haunted House on Thorn Street will be held on October 27th and 28th at 227 Thorn Street (Old Lumberyard) from 7:30 PM- 10:30 PM. Lights will be on the 27th, 3:30-5:30 and 7:30-9:00 PM with lights off all other times. Profits will be donated to the Stanton Junior Class.
