ATHLETICS
Viqueen Basketball
Stanton Viqueens evened their record at 1-1 with a 39-27 win over Riverside on last Thursday night. A quick start utilizing pressure defense lead to easily converted layups and a 15-4 first-quarter lead for the Queens. That defensive effort was highlighted with Hope Ogletree's game-high 7 steals on the night. Coach Snyder said, “I definitely saw improvement from game one, first and foremost we ended the game with 11 total turnovers and the quick start proved to be the difference in the game".
Viking Basketball
The Vikings have gotten off to a great start to the season. Scores of our games, Riverside, 74-34, Sidney, 71-44 and Griswold, 92-27. Sidney and Griswold were conference games. The Vikings have showed very good effort and unselfishness so far. They have appreciated the communities support at our games. The team has had good, loud crowds and will continue to try and represent our team, school, families and community in a way that all will be proud of the Vikings.
Junior High Girls Basketball
The junior high team is continuing to process through our core values. Number Two: We work hard. There are three subcategories: nobody will outwork us, max effort is the norm, and intensity is a premium. The team is intentional about reflecting upon these during practice. We are also now able to relate these at game time.
Last Friday, we competed with the Sidney Cowgirls. The team finished the full game with a win, 42-21. Then played two quarters, winning with a score of 19-9. Tuesday the girls traveled to Griswold and defeated the Tigers, 57-4. The game was followed with another two quarters. The Viqueens came away with another win, 26-6.
The team is ready for our first home game of the season this Friday. It will be at the Viking Center with East Mills. We will be starting at 3:30 PM. Please make sure you get a chance to view the effort of the team. It is wonderful to see the positive support we have had so far this season!
Junior High Boys' Basketball
The Junior High boys' have played all home games so far this season and have a record of 2 wins and 2 losses. They picked up wins against Sidney and Griswold and were defeated by 2 very good teams in Bedford and East Mills. The JH Vikes will be traveling for their first road game today at East Mills with tipoff at 4:00 PM. The game will played at the East Mills Elementary school between Emerson and Hastings. Good Luck Vikings and Viqueens!
