SUPERINTENDENT UPDATES
Stanton Parents-We need your help moving a bill that would extend operational sharing out of the Senate and on to the Governor.
Operational Sharing-Both Fremont-Mills and Stanton receive additional funding each year for sharing Superintendent, Curriculum, Maintenance, Transportation (FM/Sidney), Counselor (FM/Sidney) (Stanton/Red Oak), Business Manager (Stanton/Red Oak) of $139,944 per year to each district .This sunsets this year, and the legislature will be deciding whether to extend it, needless to say - very important to our schools.
This funding is a critical piece to both school budgets. In fact, it is a game changer to our smaller schools in Southwest Iowa.
Without this funding at Stanton, it would mean an immediate reduction in programming in fine arts, vocational programs, and electives. The funds account for over 5% of our General Fund Budget - and does put the future in question for our school.
At this point this legislation has passed the House, but remains in committee in the Senate. Please reach out to Senator Mark Costello should you feel this funding is important to our school.

SCHOOL ACTIVITIES
Enchanted Forest–Junior/Senior Prom
The Junior Class has been busy planning the big night of prom for the past several months. This year’s theme is Enchanted Forest. Prom will be held on Saturday evening, April 28th. Everyone is invited to watch walk-in which will commence at 6:30 PM. Walk-in will be held in the upper parking area near the high school building entrance. There will be bleachers to accommodate the on-lookers but please feel welcome to bring a lawn chair to watch as the Juniors and Seniors and their dates make their entrance into the school. Julie Strickland of Strickland Photography will take pictures beginning at 4:15 PM that afternoon. Students will sign up in the office for a time. We ask that no parents, siblings or friends are in the picture area when the couples are being photographed. No other picture taking is permitted at that time. We ask that the juniors and seniors and their guests visit the care center at 5:30 PM. The meal will be served at approximately 7:15 PM with the dance to begin at 8:30 PM. We ask that only prom-goers and invited guests are in the concourse/gym area after the walk-in. If you want to take pictures of your child/date, please do so prior to this time. After-prom activities will conclude the evening. The Juniors and Seniors are looking forward to a fun-filled and safe evening and hope to see you all at walk-in!

Vikings
The varsity traveled to Griswold last Thursday, March 29th, for the Viking/Viqueen Relays. The young men competed very well. In fact, a few of them recorded personal career bests on the first night out in the cool weather! There are 12 members of the team and we were best suited for the shorter to mid-distance races. The Vikings competed against Tri-Center, Griswold, East Mills, Sidney and a few other teams. Winning events included the sprint medley (Donnie Weis, Brett Silva, Will Roberts, and Drake Johnson) and the distance medley (Thomas Bates, Donnie Weis, Will Roberts, and Drake Johnson). The team's next meet will be Friday, April 6th, at Clarinda.
Junior High Girls Track
The girls junior high track team has been hard at work preparing for their track and field season. There are ten seventh and eighth grade girls participating in track this year. The first outing for the junior high athletes will be Tuesday, April 10th, when we host the Stanton Jr. Viqueen/Viking relays. The meet will begin at 4:00 PM with field events followed by running events.
Junior High Boys Track
The Junior High boys track team is a few days away from competition. The boys have been eagerly awaiting our first meet after weeks of practice. Our first meet will be held here in Stanton on the 10th of April. Come out and support both the boys and girl as we kick off our season!
